Kiwi Room Practices

Read about Kiwi Room Philosophy

Our infants are respected for their capabilities and have the opportunity to develop naturally, in their own time at their own pace.

Each child has a personal caregiver who is with them for their main care-giving routines; this helps the child become secure within the daycare environment and encourages an authentic relationship between infant and educarer.

The kiwi room is an environment that is unhurried, calm and stable. The children’s routines are individualised, respecting their own home routines and personal needs. We are a small group and pride ourselves with the open communication we have with families who attend our centre. We work in a partnership with parents and believe that good communication is the key for positive outcomes.

We believe that simple playthings encourages complex thinking and active toys make passive children – therefore we like to keep our playthings simple and easy to use in a variety of ways, encouraging children to be more active with their imagination. Most of our equipment and materials used in the room are not conventionally bought toys but a range of everyday objects such as tins, beads, chains, curtain rings, serviette holders and metal bowls and containers.
