Programmes and Practices

The curriculum framework at our centre is based on Te Whariki, the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum, and our interpretation of the research and thinking that has come from the Reggio approach, an innovative and successful programme developed in Italy which has received International recognition. We aim to develop in children a disposition to learn, research and to seek mastery in that in which they have a particular interest.

Key aspects of the Reggio Emilio approach are:

  • The Environment - the environment acts as a third teacher, fostering encounters, communications and relationships.

  • Image of the Child: The child is seen to be already full of understanding and knowledge.
The best preschool learning opportunity for your child
  • Teachers as Partners - teachers observe and listen to children, asking questions to discover the children's ideas and theories, using the understanding they gain to act as a resource for the children.

  • Projects - projects are introduced to provoke children's creativity, thinking and problem solving. Projects can originate from chance experiences, an event, an idea or problem posed.

Children's Portfolio

Each child will have a portfolio for the time they are at the centre. This portfolio tells the story of your child's learning progress and development while at the centre. Your child's portfolio will include a  collection of their artwork, learning stories, recording of early literacy and numeric skills and photographs and can form an important part of your family memorabilia.
